I BELIEVE THAT THIS ORDINANCE IS A NECESSARY SAFETY MEASURE AS THE CITY CONTINUES TO GROW AND THE TRAFFIC ALONG FM 973 ONLY WORSENS. THE AREA IS SO PRONE TO SPEEDING THAT THERE HAVE BEEN TWO ACCIDENTS ON LAPOYNOR STREET THAT I'M AWARE OF AN INCIDENT IN OCTOBER 2023 WHERE A DRIVER DROVE HIS CAR INTO MY NEIGHBOR'S HOME, AND IN AN ACCIDENT JUST LAST WEEK WHERE A SPEEDING CAR HIT A PARKED CAR ALONG LAPOYNOR STREET. BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURRED DURING THE WEEK, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AND BETWEEN THE HOURS OF THREE AND 5 P.M. I SHOULD HIGHLIGHT THAT THESE DRIVERS DRIVERS DROVE INTO A HOME AND A PARKED CAR. FROM SPEAKING TO MANY NEIGHBORS, WE BELIEVE THAT SPEED BUMPS THROUGHOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD WOULD BE THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO CONTROL SPEEDING AND TO FORCE DRIVERS TO RESPECT OUR TRAFFIC LAWS.
